A significant grass fire erupted in southeast Cedar Rapids on Monday evening, consuming approximately 35 acres of timberland near the 900 block of 44th Street SE. The blaze, reported around 5:00 p.m., prompted a substantial response from local and regional fire departments.
Upon arrival, firefighters encountered intense flames and thick smoke. Despite the fire's proximity to residential areas, no evacuations were necessary.
